Being the mother of a blind child presents many challenges as you might imagine…I pride myself with my abilities to rise to the occasion to meet those challenges on a daily basis…but today, I created a simple solution to meeting a need for my now adult daughter, Shantel, who is totally blind, and loves to bake, but needs wide, unbreakable, air tight, canisters, readily available to her when the baking mood strikes, to hold her flour and various types of sugars, so she can get her measuring cups in and out of the canisters without spilling the ingredients all over the kitchen…and my need to have those same unbreakable, air tight, canisters, fit into the cowgirl/boy theme of my home decor…:)
Here is my simple solution, and latest update, to our needs meets wants:
How adorable are these? These are just simple, plastic, pop top canisters, that allow Shantel to use them with ease…but looked really boring to me sitting on our kitchen coutner…I could have them stored in the pantry…but then every time she needed them she would have to get them out and put them away…not functional for our lifestyle…so, I pondered on that for a while…and then I came up with this brilliant idea that can be used with any theme…just imagine tying anything on these canasters…animal theme fabric, shabby chic fabric.. get in touch with your hippy days fabric…the list is endless!!! And…
The best thing of all is… when your mood changes, all you need to do is change the fabric…AND…if you buy the right fabric… you can take them off and wash them….BONUS!!!
So, what do you think?…Should I go into the decorating consulting ideas business… or not…?
Stay Tuned!
