While in Vermont, of course we wanted to take a day trip drive and soak up all the breathtaking beauty we could. We had a map, but really no agenda, and were very open to just taking any little side country road we came upon which is how we found Emerald Lake State Park.
Emerald Park is a 430 acre park located along the side of Dorset Mountain with Emerald lake, the head waters of Otter Creek, at its base. The area was historically known for its marble quarrying activities with the park lands once operating as a large farm and summer retreat before becoming a state park in 1960.
We walked all the way around the lake and I was struck by the crystal clear, green lake water. I could clearly see the bottom of the lake and wish I could have captured that in my pictures but trust me it was beautiful…
So very peaceful to be by the water which is surrounded by miles and miles of lush forest.
The park even offers rental boats if you have a mind to paddle around the lake. The campgrounds surrounding the lake were well maintained and offered basic facilities.
We all talked and shared our feelings about what we were seeing as we walked along the lake at the base of the forest, but as we made our way back, frissy made the suggestion that we walk back in silence, and just process our own thoughts as we took in all the beauty around us. What a perfect suggestion that was as it allowed the peaceful quiet of the forest to settle into ourselves, and it played off the beautiful experience we had at the lighting of the lanterns for peace ceremony we all attended in Central Park the day before we left for Vermont. To see stunning photos of that lantern lighting for peace ceremony you should pop over to my frissy’s blog at www.gothamgirlchronicles.com and take a look at her post titled ” Be a light for peace” dated Oct 4th, 2013. Frissy is a fabulous photographer and all her photos are VERY high impact!

Yes, Aunt Ellen, it was breathtaking, and I will never forget the special moments I shared with my special girlfriends both in NYC and Vermont. I too feel like I had a small glimpse of what is yet to come on the other side… xoxo
