Day Eight

Of the ten-day countdown to our daughter, Shantel moving into her own apartment.

This morning started out with the usual hurry up and wait for Shantel to finally get ready to leave for school. I swear that girl can drive me up the wall and down the other side with her last minuteness… She tells me she wants to leave the house by 8:00 a.m. but I have yet to experience actually being in the car to leave by then… it is always more like 8:30ish. I keep telling her she needs to be more respectful of my time if she wants me to be her personal driver…she smiles and says “I know, I know, I know…” I hear that in my sleep sometimes.

So we finally got on the road and she wants to go to the Burrito Company to get her favorite breakfast. I don’t mind since it is on the way, well sort of… Once there, of course she has to do the check-in thing on Facebook like people her age think they all need to do…

After she made sure all her Facebook buddies knew where she was, she settled down to eat her breakfast. Just look at how HUGE that burrito is and it comes complete with chips and salsa! It’s a two hand deal for sure. If I ate even half of that I would gain 10 lbs on the spot!

However, believe it or not, when we left the Burrito Company Shantel asked me if I would stop by McDonald’s so she could get a large caramel frappe to take to class with her because she was still hungry… I thought she was kidding me, but no, she really wanted a large caramel frappe, so off we went. Where does that girl put it all?

As I was driving home after dropping Shantel off at school, I was thinking about how much time I have spent over the years driving from one end of the Valley of the Sun to the other, mostly taking Shantel to school, and helping her run her errands… I have to say I have become a bit of an expert at getting around town in the fastest/shortest way possible. I don’t do so well learning the NYC subways and train systems when I visit my frissy, but I’ve got the Phoenix and surrounding areas down PAT. Ha!

I started a list of things I’m going to do after Shantel moves out. Things I haven’t had time to do or couldn’t do while she still lived here. Things like:

Rearrange furniture in the house. I couldn’t do that before or it would totally screw up Shantel’s landmarks making it hard for her to move comfortably within our home.

I am going to move the computer cabinet out of the family room to make more room there now that we have our new furniture. YEAH!!

I’m going to get back into hobbies I love and take some classes I’ve been wanting to take.

I’m going to turn Shantel’s vacated room into a cozy guest room so when family and friends come to visit they feel welcomed, loved and very comfortable. I love to entertain, and have family and friends come to our home. We already have our first house guest coming in August. My cousin, Kathy, from Pennsylvania, will be with us for ten days. I can’t hardly wait. We will have so much fun hosting her and showing her around our beautiful state. Better get your reservations in early as once the word is out I’m sure we will have lots of folks lining up for that special guest room! 🙂

My frissy has a large FUN BOX ( where nothing but pure fun happens) in her Arizona home, and everyone wants to be invited when she says the FUN BOX is open! Now, with Shantel moving to her own apartment, and my husband, Bill/Bro and I are being cut loose from direct responsibility of anyone but ourselves for the first time since I can even remember… we might just end up with something like a fun box in our own home. Once you’ve spent time in a fun box… you just can’t wait for the next fun box opportunity… Bella, my alternate personality I found when I was in NYC, is just beyond excited at the thought of having something like a fun box right here in our own home… Oh my!

I don’t know what the next chapter of our lives will bring for Bill and I. But I know we are looking forward to creating new memories, experiencing new things, and enjoying each day as it comes…

Stay Tuned!

Thank you Aunt Ellen. Yes, Bill and I plan to really relax and just have fun together now… Together, we raised two families, doing the best we could for all our children… Now, finally, it is our time to just relax and just enjoy our life together. XoXo Virginia

Ah to be young and have a high metabolism. I remember eating a Big Mac, Chocolate Shake and fries and not gain an ounce. Shantel enjoy and have a carmel frappe for me.

I am so looking forward to coming to visit. Is is August yet?
