Our Quail Uniforms

So Bill and I snagged a great work/camp gig as camp hosts at Quail Creek Park in Utah…. Camp hosts usually just make sure the camping guests have everything they need, do some light maintenance and cleaning i.e. clean bathrooms and make sure they are stocked with toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels… etc. However, everyone that works at Quail Creek has to go through the quagga/zebra mussels class which Bill and I attended, and that is where I first met our Park Manager, Laura… aka, our “big boss”….

I didn’t know it at the time, but found out later, that Laura sat in on the class because she wanted to make sure all her staff members were present, and that they were actively participating in the class… So me being me…., of course if I am going to attend a class, I want to learn whatever there is to learn, and I am not one bit bashful about asking questions if I don’t understand anything…

So picture me raising my hand, (much to the dismay of the others in the class that were just there because they were told they have to attend this class once a year, and they already know all this stuff….),  to ask clarification on almost everything since this was the first time I had even heard about quagga/zebra mussels…. And,  I want to learn everything I can so I can be the best Camp Host EVER…. I’m asking all kinds of questions so I can educate our camping guests whenever the opportunity presents itself…

Well, apparently, Laura took notice of my eagerness to learn, and the fact that I’m not bashful to ask questions, and decided, unbeknown to me at the time, that I was “one sharp cookie” and decided my work/camp time would be better spent working the gate check-in/payment booth at Quail Creek… With that decision made, she signed me up for a lot of reading to prepare me to take several tests to make sure I understand all about handling money transactions, i.e. credit card transactions, cash payments, and managing two computer systems that I have never seen before in my life, because she said she has no doubt that I have good work ethics and I would be “a quick study” and be able to manage working shifts by myself with little training…. We are talking about a State Park, managing lots of cash flow transactions for campers, day passes, etc. in addition to inspecting any boats that have been in quagga/zebra infested waters….all at the same time…

So, Bill and I had to watch a little video about driving safety and answer some on-line questions about rules of the road so when we are driving a state vehicle, which for us, equates to a golf cart they call a “mule”…

But then, yours truly was given all this “light reading” that would prepare me to take several tests the next day to be sure I understand how to make credit card transactions while keeping the data safe…. study material like these…

Well, lucky for me, I passed all my tests, and I am now I am an official Quail Creek Gate Booth Keeper. The only thing between you getting your watercraft on our water…. is me… YIKES!!!

But seriously, I LOVE what I am doing and learning. I told Bill that when we retire “I don’t want us to just sit around and watch TV… I want to stay active and continue to learn something new every day.” Mission accomplished for SURE there!

This is Bill in his official Quail Creek maintenance uniform.

And this is my official Quail Creek Gate Keeper Uniform…

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, it’s off to work/camp duties we go…. And the best part about it is we are having the time of our lives…

Stay Tuned!

P.S. I had a reader report to me that she follows my blog but is no longer receiving automatic email notifications when I create a new post. Thanks Karen Reno for reporting that to me as I have no other way of knowing that something might be wrong with my blog unless one of my readers reports it to me… 🙂 I would like to ask that if any of my readers that follow my blog are not receiving an auto email notification please let me know so I can look into what the problem is. I have my blog linked to Facebook where you can see when I make a new post, but if you follow my blog you should receive an email notification as well. If you are not please let me know.
